SYNOPSIS

The origins of the Colombian drug trade, as seen through eyes of an indigenous Wayuu family that becomes involved in the booming business of selling marijuana to American youth in the 1970s. When greed, passion and honor collide, a fratricidal war breaks out and puts their lives, culture and ancestral traditions at stake.

Cristina Gallego

Isabel Cristina Gallego Lozano was born in Bogotá in 1978. She graduated from the School of Film & TV of the National University of Colombia in 2003, and in Advertising & Marketing at the Politecnico Grancolombiano in 1999. Between 2003 and 2007 she worked as a producer of educational and cultural television at the National University of Colombia. In 1998, together with Ciro Guerra, she founded Ciudad Lunar, a company that produced the acclaimed feature films WANDERING SHADOWS (2004), THE WIND JOURNEYS (2009), and EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT (2015), all directed by Ciro Guerra.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Ciro Guerra

Ciro Guerra was born in Río de Oro (Cesar, Colombia) in 1981. His first two feature films, THE WANDERING SHADOWS (2004) and THE WIND JOURNEYS (2009) were shown at over 160 international film festivals, including Cannes, Toronto, San Sebastian, Locarno and Tribeca. THE WIND JOURNEYS premiered at Un Certain Regard at Cannes, and both films were chosen as Colombia’s official entries for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. His third feature film, EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT (2015; Berlinale Co-production market 2012) won the Art Cinema Award at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes 2015 and is nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2016 Academy Awards.
